Workshop: Climate change resilient storage and its socio-environmental implications

A workshop on climate change resilient storage and its socio-environmental implications will be held in Bogota, Colombia. The objective of the workshop is:

  • to disseminate the advances in the project carried out by MSc and PhD researchers on this topic
  • Establish necessities of research groups and task-forces for planning the upcoming work on  the development of the S-Multistor project and complementary activities

This workshop will be held in the IDEAM offices (Calle 25D No 96 B – 70) in Bogota during Thursday 22 and Friday 23 November 2018 from 9:30 to 16:00

Participation of Mário Franca and Jairo Villada at the first National Water Congress in Colombia (ANDI Asociación Nacional de Empresarios de Colombia), 6th June, Bogotá

On 6th June Mário Franca and Jairo Villada participated in the 1st National Water Congress (1er Congreso Nacional del Agua) organized by ANDI (National Business Association of Colombia), in Bogotá.

Mário Franca gave a keynote speech on the integrated management of water resources, focusing on the need to consider the sediments, which have been produced and transported within the river basins, since the initial stages of planning and design of new water storage projects. He also talked about the circular economy in the context of hydropower and presented the water management structure which exists in the Netherlands.

Jairo Vallada, from the energy company Celsia S.A. E.S.P. and actually doing his PhD at IHE Delft, participatd in a panel about the importance of incorporating the consideration for environmental compensation measures in the planning phase of water storage and hydropower projects.

The participants of the Congress included a mix of private sector entrepreneurs, politicians and decision makers, NGO members, engineers and academics.

Mario was invited by ANDI and his participation had the support of the Netherlands Embassy in Bogota, Colombia. He leads the project S-MultiStor, which involves ANDI and other Colombian institutions as partners, and which is is funded by DUPC2 (programmatic cooperation between the Directorate-General for International Cooperation (DGIS). The presentation can be downloaded here website of the Congress.
